  • Ten Principles for Good Design

    / Comments (0)

What is good design? Back in the early '80's, industrial designer Dieter Rams asked himself that same question. He set out looking for answers and this is what he discovered.

    Good Design...

    ...is innovative.

    ...makes a product useful.

    ...is aesthetic.

    ...makes a product understable.

    ...is unobtrusive.

    ...is honest.

    ...is long lasting.

...is thorough, down to the last detail.

    ...is environmentally friendly.

...is as little design as possible.

The above list, with explanations and pics, can be found here. Do you agree with the ten principles? Is the list missing anything significant?

Ah, the rampant sexism of retro ads. This time VW is the culprit. It's easy to say that the Lemon ad far outweighs this one.

  • Clever Rubber Band Packaging

    / Comments (0)

These rubber band packages are bangin'. The design is clean and simple, yet innovative and clever. The stronger the rubber band, the more the box is tightened. We would for sure buy these if we came across them at Office Depot. And then we would fling them longingly at our creative counterparts.

Designer Ric Baxter described the project...

"The brief was to go into the pound shop and pick out something that seemed dull and completely re-think the packaging of it. The idea is that the elastic band in the middle squeezes in the box and the strong the band, the most the box is squeezed."
